Kazuo Ueda is a Japanese economist serving as the 32nd Governor of the Bank of Japan since April 2023. Prior to his central bank appointment, he served as dean of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Tokyo, president of the Japan Economic Association, and professor at Kyoritsu Women's University. Educated at the University of Tokyo and MIT, where his doctoral advisor was Stanley Fischer, Ueda represents an academic appointment to Japan's top monetary post. In March 2024, he led the central bank to dismantle its long-running zero-interest-rate policy and yield curve control framework.
