Brian Acton is an American technology executive and software developer best known for co-founding WhatsApp alongside Jan Koum in 2009. Following WhatsApp's $19 billion acquisition by Facebook in 2014, Acton left the company in 2017 over disagreements regarding user privacy and monetization, forfeiting $850 million in unvested equity options. In 2018, he invested over $105 million into founding the non-profit Signal Technology Foundation, where he serves as executive chairperson and interim CEO of Signal Messenger LLC.
