Tharman Shanmugaratnam is a Singaporean economist and politician who assumed office as the ninth President of Singapore in September 2023 after securing 70.4% of the vote in a landslide presidential election. He previously served as Member of Parliament for Taman Jurong from 2001 to 2023, Deputy Prime Minister from 2011 to 2019, and Senior Minister from 2019 to 2023. Beyond his cabinet portfolios, he oversaw Singapore's financial policy as Chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore and Deputy Chairman of sovereign wealth fund GIC.
