Rajkot is the fourth-largest city in the western Indian state of Gujarat, situated on the banks of the Aji and Nyari rivers in the centre of the Saurashtra region. With a metropolitan population of over 2 million, it functions as the administrative headquarters of Rajkot district and a key industrial centre. Founded in 1612, the city previously served as the capital of Saurashtra State from 1948 to 1956 before merging into Gujarat in 1960.
