Mallikarjun Kharge is an Indian politician and lawyer who serves as the 61st President of the Indian National Congress and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. Having started his career in state politics as a multi-term MLA and cabinet minister in Karnataka, he transitioned to national politics in 2009 as an MP for Gulbarga. He previously served in the Union Cabinet as Minister of Labour and Employment and Minister of Railways under the UPA 2 government. In 2022, he became the first non-Gandhi INC President in 24 years after defeating Shashi Tharoor.
