Armas Clifford 'Mike' Markkula Jr. is an American electrical engineer, investor, and corporate executive who served as Apple Computer's initial angel investor, chairman, and CEO. After securing financial independence as a marketing manager at Fairchild Semiconductor and Intel, he provided Apple's initial capital and credit line in 1977 for a 26% stake. Markkula steered Apple's corporate governance through 1997, guiding the development of the Apple II and Macintosh while serving as CEO from 1981 to 1983. He later founded Echelon Corporation, ACM Aviation, and funded the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University.
