Kannadasan (born Muthiah Sathappan Chettiar; 1927–1981), widely known as Kaviarasu ('King of Poets'), was a prolific Indian poet, Tamil film lyricist, author, and magazine editor. Over a career spanning more than three decades, he penned over 5,000 film songs, 6,000 poems, and 232 books, including the multi-volume spiritual series Arthamulla Indhu Matham and the historical novel Cheraman Kathali. In 1978, he was appointed Poet Laureate (Arasavai Kavignar) of Tamil Nadu by the state government.
