Gene Frantz is an American electrical engineer widely recognized as a pioneer in digital signal processing (DSP) technology. Over a 39-year career at Texas Instruments, he rose to Principal Fellow and led the creation of early commercial DSP applications, including the TMS5100 speech synthesis chip used in the Speak & Spell educational device. Following his retirement from Texas Instruments in 2013, Frantz co-founded Octavo Systems and served as a Professor in the Practice of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rice University.
