Ciba Specialty Chemicals was formed in 1997 when Novartis spun out its industrial chemicals business following the Ciba‑Geigy and Sandoz merger. Headquartered near Basel, Switzerland, it operated in numerous markets including agriculture, automotive, construction, electronics and personal care. The company acquired Raisio Chemicals in 2004, sold its textile dyes division to Huntsman in 2006, and was acquired by BASF in 2008, becoming BASF Schweiz AG in 2010.
